The VCU Police Department says two suspects attempted a burglary in broad daylight on Wednesday on the 800 block of Catherine Street.

According to a VCU alert issued to students and staff, a suspect knocked on the door of a private residence, the resident opened the door, and the suspect asked for someone who did not live there. The resident closed the door.

“A few minutes later, the man returned to the residence and knocked on the door again,” the VCU alert said. “When the resident answered, the man had reportedly returned with a second individual who was armed and wearing a ski mask; one of them tried to enter the residence, but the resident was able to shut the door and block entry.”

The VCU and Richmond police departments say the first suspect is a black male about 15 or 16 years old. He was wearing a gray hoodie and jeans. There is no other information about the second suspect who was wearing the ski mask.
The incident happened just after 3 p.m. Wednesday.
The VCU alert says police have increased patrols in the area.
