The Richmond Spiders host the VCU Rams in Friday night A-10 college basketball action.
The VCU Rams are the proverbial 900 pound gorilla in the Atlantic Ten because they can score and defend which means they can win in any number of ways. The Rams relied on offense to down St. Joes for their 7th straight win on Tuesday as a 15.5 point favorite as a small first half lead slowly grew over the final 20 minutes. The Hawks won the shooting battle 49%-45.5% but VCU went 13-27 on threes to provide a comfortable margin. JeQuan Lewis saved the Rams with a game high 34 points on 9-16 with Justin Tillman adding 14 points and 13 rebounds. Doug Brooks gave VCU another 12 points while Samir Doughty tossed in ten points, eight boards and ten assists.

The Richmond Spiders have some decent talent but not the type that will win the Atlantic Ten although they can be a difficult foe. Having said that, the Spiders were not that difficult in a 93-70 loss at George Mason Tuesday as a 1.5 point favorite where they faced a 13 point hole at the break and struggled through the final 20 minutes. Richmond allowed nearly 54% shooting and countered at 46% although the real difference came at the stripe where the Patriots sank 25 more free throws. TJ Cline was the Spiders top weapon with 21 points, six pulls and five assists with Nick Sherod netting 18 while Khwan Fore and ShawnDre Jones scoring 12 and ten points respectively.
VCU are 8-1 ATS in their last 9 Friday games and the over is 7-3 in VCU last 10 road games. The over is 6-2 in Richmond last 8 Friday games. The home team is 14-6-1 ATS in the last 21 meetings.
Going against VCU is not going to make you rich but I think the Spiders will put their best foot forward…
