The Atlantic Coast Conference released its matchup schedule for the 2017-18 season
The North Carolina Tar Heels will open up their defense of their 2017 National Championship by hosting Northern Iowa at the Dean Dome in November.
With the non-conference schedule pretty much set, the next thing to lock up was the conference matchups.
On Thursday, the Atlantic Coast Conference released its full conference basketball matchups list featuring 18 games for all 15 teams.
The Tar Heels will continue to play a home and road game against its two designated rivals in Duke and NC State. They will also play Clemson and Notre Dame at home and on the road as part of their repeats on the schedule.
UNC’s home matchups are Miami, Georgia Tech, Wake Forest, Pitt, Clemson, Notre Dame, Duke, NC State and Boston College.
In the 2016-17 championship run, home court was key for the Tar Heels. They finished a perfect 16-0 on the year in the Dean Dome including 9-0 in ACC play. That was highlighted by wins over Duke, Florida State, Louisville and Virginia in the Dean Dome.
As for the road schedule, well it looks a little tougher early on.
The Tar Heels will travel to Florida State, Virginia, Virginia Tech, Louisville, Duke, NC State, Clemson, Notre Dame and Syracuse.
Last season UNC lost at Duke and at Virginia while going 7-5 overall on the road. The Tar Heels will host the first of two matchups against Duke in 2018 while playing the finale at Cameron Indoor Stadium.
In addition, the conference announced that the 2018 ACC Tournament will take place March 6-10 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. It’s the second-straight year the venue will host the tournament.
Dates, times and full schedule will be released at a later date.
