Earlier this week, we posted an article about Virginia Rep. Dave Brat hosting individual office hours in different counties from within the district.
Below is the press release from the congressman’s camp on how the first day went.
Today, Rep. Brat met with 30 constituents from Louisa and Goochland counties as part of a series of mobile office hours in all 10 counties of the 7th District this August. Rep. Brat has already made over 350 official stops and spoken with tens of thousands of Virginians throughout the Seventh District in the past 18 months at community events, schools, businesses, civic organizations and more.
Today’s mobile office hours represent a continuation of Rep. Brat’s commitment to listen to his constituents. During these meetings, every constituent who requested it, regardless of their political beliefs, was able to have an open-ended dialogue with Congressman Brat about any issue or issues of their choosing. As a result of feedback received today, Rep. Brat has already committed to holding some of the future meetings like these outside of normal business hours to accommodate those who cannot make it because of work commitments.
Following today’s meetings, Rep. Brat issued the following statement:
“I am grateful for everyone who took time out of their busy schedules to meet with me and express their views, even though many disagreed with me. These meetings give me a critically important opportunity to have a civil exchange of ideas with people on a variety of issues, including lowering health care costs, protecting Social Security, tackling immigration reform, and practicing fiscal responsibility.
“One of the things I also learned today was that some people were simply unaware of the positions I have taken where we agree. While the media may not always cover me and the work I am doing on your behalf, I encourage everyone to sign up for my email newsletter or follow me on social media platforms to hear directly from me. My staff is also available to listen to the concerns of people who want to call in or meet with them. And I will continue to uphold my commitment to travel extensively throughout the 7th District to listen to my constituents, so that I can better represent you in Congress.”
