The Washington Redskins wrapped up their 2018 minicamp last week with some interesting news breaking that didn’t surprise most fans. The Redskins’ head coach Jay Gruden has the opening odds of +1200 to be the first head coach fired in the 2018 NFL season.

As many teams are now taking time off and players are working out individually, the NFL announced the training camp dates for all 32 teams. The Washington Redskins will be in Richmond for training camp at the Bon Secours Training Center from July 26th to August 14th. During that time fans can come see their favorite players and team practice. This year the Redskins will be hosting the New York Jets for a few days of joint practice.

Minicamp was a success for the Redskins, they hosted 46 tryout players among a total of 74 players that were labeled as rookies. All of the players were present for the minicamp workouts.

Along with the training camp schedule being released on June 21st, Sports Illustrated issued a C-grade for the Washington Redskins up to this point in the offseason for addressing certain team needs in free agency and  Draft.

Sports Illustrated may have graded the Redskins with a C, but defensive line coach Jim Tomsula is making no excuses for this upcoming season and will hold every player accountable.

Jaguars’ running back Leonard Fournette and former LSU teammate of current Redskins rookie  Derrius Guice said that he is expecting Guice to make a big impact for Washington this year.

The week of minicamp all of the Redskins coaches are beginning to learn about their new quarterback, Alex Smith.  Smith brings experience to the team playing 14 seasons and being voted to the Pro Bowl in 2013, 2016 and 2017. Many Redskins fans are hoping he can duplicate the season he had with the Kansas City Chiefs last year – but the main thing everyone should be excited about most is that Alex Smith will be back with his favorite target in tight end Vernon Davis. They played together in San Francisco.

The player that stood out most in minicamp was WR Maurice Harris. Harris was assigned to the practice squad in his first two NFL seasons. Last year he was promoted to the 53-man roster for the Redskins in the Vikings game at home and had a great debut with the team. Now Harris is looking to stay on the 53-man roster and make a name for himself as a top target.

The receiver group  will be looking for plenty of players to step up and help out Smith as his first year in Washington will be crucial. Expect a big bounce back year for the Washington Redskins, since many sources and myself are saying that this is the most complete team the Redskins have had in sometime.

I will also add in that the Washington Redskins are lacking talent in the wide receiver positon and there is a veteran free agent that used to be the number one target for the Dallas Cowboys, his name is Dez Bryant, and I believe it would be a great acquisition for the team. Alex Smith would then have two targets he can count in the big moments of a game in wide receivers Josh Doctson and Dez Bryant.
