Charges filed in crash involving Richmond police officer

Wednesday morning at approximately, 7:17 a.m., the Virginia State Police responded to a three vehicle crash northbound Route 76, south of Courthouse Road.

The trooper’s preliminary investigation reveals that a Richmond P.D. officer driving a Ford Crown Victoria was traveling northbound on Route 76 slowing for toll traffic when a Dodge Ram driven by, Jonathan Mcclure, 38, of Midlothian, Va., struck the police officer in the rear.  A BMW SUV traveling behind the Dodge Ram was able to swerve onto the shoulder to avoid striking the Dodge Ram.  A Chrysler Van traveling directly behind the BMW struck the Dodge Ram in the rear.

There were no injuries sustained in this crash.

Mcclure was charged with Following too close.

The crash remains under investigation.
