A Portion of Courthouse Road will be Closed, Residents Will See a Large Public Safety Presence and May Hear Loud Noises

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, VA – Several of Chesterfield County’s public safety and emergency management departments will conduct an active threat exercise at O.B. Gates Elementary School, 10001 Courthouse Road, on Saturday, Aug. 11. Also, Courthouse Road will be closed from the Courts Complex Road to Krause Road from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Residents will want to avoid this area. The actual exercise will begin at 9:30 a.m. and last approximately three hours.

This training will allow the involved agencies to coordinate and respond to a simulated active threat situation and evaluate their collaborative response. This exercise will involve elements of Chesterfield County Emergency Management, Police, Sheriff’s Office, Fire and EMS, and Public Schools. Approximately 300 public safety, school and county staff are expected to participate.

There will be a heavy police and fire presence in the area on Saturday, and residents in the vicinity of Gates Elementary should not be alarmed. Residents may hear loud noises that sound like gun shots and see numerous public safety personnel and vehicles.
