Club Champions League College Showcase

What: The fall edition of the Club Champions League College Showcase features top youth soccer clubs from all over the Mid-Atlantic region competing in front of 80+ college coaches. This event was designed for youth soccer players to show off their talents in hopes of being discovered by a college coach.
When: Friday, Dec. 9-Sunday, Dec. 11
Complete game schedule will be released on the tournament website at a later date.

Christmas Toy Airlift Collects Toys for Military Families

What: On Saturday, Dec. 10, pilots from the Virginia Chapter of the Ninety-Nines will collect toys donated at other airports throughout the state and fly them to Richmond Executive – Chesterfield County Airport. Soldiers from Fort Lee will pick them up and transport them to the Holiday Helper Association for distribution. Residents are encouraged to bring gifts to the airport now through Dec. 10 and leave them in a donation box located in the lobby. Santa also will be flying in to visit with children on Dec. 10 at noon. Entertainment will be provided throughout the day, and King’s Corner restaurant will be open for lunch.

In addition to toys, gifts and gift cards (Visa or MasterCard preferred, or cards to Target, Wal-Mart, local restaurants or stores), items are needed for the veterans at McGuire Veterans Hospital. They need clothing (larger sizes of men’s and women’s underwear, socks, sweat pants and shirts) and toiletries (8-12 oz. containers of deodorant, body wash, lotion, alcohol-free mouthwash, toothpaste and denture cleanser and adhesive).

Information: Since 2009, the Virginia Chapter of the Ninety-Nines has sponsored a Christmas Toy Airlift to collect toys for military families who need help in providing for their children, many of whom are injured, ill or struggling financially. Gifts are needed for children of all ages.

Tacky Light Run

What: This 6k-holiday-themed fun run will start and finish in Mid-Lothian Mines Park, with participants looping through the adjoining Walton Park neighborhood, to see some of the most festive homes in the community. The event truly illuminates Chesterfield County to all in attendance as we continue to enjoy the RVA tradition of “tacky” holiday lights.

Sir Thomas Dale’s Colonial Christmas at Henricus

What: This free event will feature first-person character interpretation about the etiquette, norms, customs and laws regarding Christmas in English households of the early 17th-century. Experience the holiday traditions in a variety of homes, and enjoy period dance and song in the hospital.

Parade of Lights

What: Each year, boaters decorate their boats and converge on the James River for a parade that marks the beginning of the holiday season. Boaters must register their boats prior to participating in the parade. Presented by the James River Advisory Council, this free event also features other entertainment at viewing sites.
When: Saturday, Dec. 10, 6-9 p.m.
Where: The Richmond Region viewing sites include Libby Hill Park, Osborne Park and Boat Landing, Dutch Gap Boat Landing and Henricus Historical Park.

Boar’s Head Feast

What: Tis’ the season to step back in time! Follow the merry Lord of Misrule to England in the 1590s. Enjoy the sights, sounds and flavors of Christmas as we knew it then. A multi-course feast including roasted meats, pies, ale, cider & more, served at table in our spacious, candle-lit Guest House with a blazing Yule log fire. Dine to the sounds of period musicians with wassailing a-plenty, and many a toast to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth I. Begin your holidays with one of the oldest English Christmas traditions in one of the oldest English settlements in North America: Henricus!

Derrick Rutledge: About Face

What: Meet successful entrepreneur Derrick Rutledge, makeup artist for Oprah Winfrey and formerly to First Lady Michelle Obama. He’ll discuss how he started his business and built his brand, and how he continues to innovate and grow his company. The program begins with a meet-and-greet with light refreshments, followed by a talk session and Q&A. Registration is required and begins Dec. 6.
