Clover Hill High School’s marching band, the Marching Cavaliers, will join hundreds of other student musicians from across the country Wednesday as part of the 75th Pearl Harbor Mass Band.
The students have been rehearsing 10 different musical compositions that the band — led by world-renowned composer and conductor Dr. Robert W. Smith — will perform in Honolulu.
In the weeks leading up to the event, the Clover Hill musicians visited the Virginia War Memorial for a seminar about World War II to learn more about the attack on Pearl Harbor. The visit included touring the Shrine of Memories, reading letters from soldiers and talking to veterans.
The Marching Cavaliers have received numerous honors in the past 25 years, including being named a Virginia Honor Band 11 times. They’ve also received special recognition by the Chesterfield Board of Supervisors, the General Assembly and the governor of Virginia.
