On May 2nd, 2019 at approximately 5:30am, Colonial Heights Police responded to the 200 Block of Archer Avenue for a suspicious female. Once on scene, officers located a female in the woods, who was disoriented and injured. The female reported that she had met an unknown male in the City of Petersburg earlier in the evening and decided to accompany him to a restaurant in the City of Colonial Heights. Later in the evening, the two left the restaurant and drove to 241 Archer Avenue; more commonly known as Archer Avenue Pavilion. The female reported that once at the Pavilion, the male subject robbed her of cash and physically and sexually assaulted her. The female was transported to Virginia Commonwealth Medical Center for treatment of injuries considered to be non-life threatening. At the time of the incident, the victim described her attacker as a black male, bald and driving a silver two-door sedan.
Based on the information the victim provided, Colonial Heights Detectives were able to locate an image of the suspect through surveillance video. CHPD Detectives working with regional contacts were able to identify the suspect as Michael F. Gholson, 52 of Chesterfield County.
On May 16, 2019, the U.S. Marshal’s Capital Region Fugitive Taskforce located Gholson in the 700 Block of Marks Alley in the City of Petersburg, where he was taken into custody without incident. Gholson has been charged with Rape, Sodomy by Force, Malicious Wounding, Abduction and Grand Larceny and is currently being held at Riverside Regional Jail without bond. Gholson’s next court appearance will be on July 10, 2019 at 1:00pm in Colonial Heights General District Court.
