Colonial Heights Police arrest Hopewell man for Robbery, Arson, and Escape

Colonial Heights Police just made rhe following announcement:

An adult male has been arrested in connection with a case involving robbery, arson, larceny and weapons charges. On November 25, 2018 around 5:07am, Colonial Heights Police officers responded to a call of someone shooting at Bennys Tavern located in the 3600 block of the Boulevard. Officers arrived within 2 minutes but the suspect had left the area.

Officers determined a flare gun had been displayed and fired in the business causing fire damage to the building during the robbery.

Colonial Heights Investigators were able to identify the male and obtain warrants for his arrest. On December 6, 2018, Billy Ray David, 38, of Hopewell, Virginia was taken into custody by the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force with the assistance of the Hopewell Police Police Department. Once in custody, David attempted to escape and additional warrants were obtained.

Billy Ray David has been charged with Robbery, Use of a Firearm in the Commission of a Felony, Arson, Possession of a Firearm by a Felon, Escape, Assault on Law Enforcement Officer, Felony Larceny, and Obstruction. David is being held without bond pending his next court date on 2/6/2019 in the Colonial Heights General District Court.
