Crews are responding to a building collapse with people trapped in Chesterfield

A deadly string of tornados tore through Chesterfield, Henrico, and Richmond on Monday. One person died after a building collapsed off of Speeks Road near Hull Street Road in western Chesterfield.

Multiple roads are closed across Chesterfield. School busses are struggling to navigate the area after beginning their routes more than two hours late.

Chesterfield also announced that they will be beginning their school days two hours late on Tuesday. Our live update timeline throughout the storms is below along with photos.

5:25 p.m.

Chesterfield fire officials confirm a fatality has occurred at the Speeks road building collapse.

5:20 p.m.

Clover Hill Library has been set up as a shelter for people if they need one.

5:15 p.m.

A storm with the potential to produce a tornado is now heading in the direction of Mechanicsville and Hanover.

4:45 p.m.

Take cover if you are in the area from west Midlothian to Short Pump. This includes the areas surrounding these localities.

4:15 p.m.

Firefighters from across the county are headed in the direction of Hull and Speeks road for a building collapse. Hull Street is closed at Courthouse Road. There is a natural gas leak on this scene.

3:55 p.m. update.

Crews are responding to reports of a building collapse off of Speeks Drive in Midlothian.

3:40 p.m.

Officials have confirmed a tornado caused damage on Beach Road at Riverway.
