CHESTERFIELD, VA– EMILY’s List announced their endorsement today of Democrat Amanda Pohl, candidate in the 11th Senate District.
“Amanda Pohl is a lifelong Virginian ready to fight for change in the state Senate,” said Geri Prado, senior director of state and local campaigns at EMILY’s List. “As a senator, she will stand up for Virginia women and families and EMILY’s List is proud to endorse her campaign.”
“In times when state lawmakers are increasingly policing women’s bodies and reproductive choices, I am proud to be recognized by EMILY’s List as a candidate who will stand in support of reproductive freedom and against extreme government interference in those most intimate personal decisions.” said Pohl. “My personal and professional experiences help me understand that reproductive decisions should always be between a woman, her healthcare provider, and those she chooses to involve. The government does not belong in these decisions.”
This endorsement is particularly meaningfully to Pohl because she knows firsthand how government interference in personal healthcare choices can make the heartbreaking reality of losing a pregnancy so much worse. She has shared her story in detail here.
The Pohl for Virginia Senate campaign has already received endorsements from local leaders and activist organizations including Run for Something, progressive blog Blue Virginia, Meg Gruber – the immediate past president of the Virginia Education Association, and Clarence M. Dunnaville Jr., a long-time civil rights activist and lawyer.
