We have sad news out of Hopewell tonight.

Hopewell Police say the father of an infant who died in June has now been charged with 1st degree murder.

David Anthony Gans was arrested by U.S. Marshals on Wednesday.

Police say on June 10, they responded to 200 block of S. 13th Avenue to find an unresponsive three-week-old infant. The child was later pronounced dead at John Randolph Medical Center.

Marshals also arrested 24-year-old Angelo Gans and 22-year-old Kadisha Gans on Wednesday. They are charged with failing to provide medical treatment in conjunction with the infant’s death.

In an interview Wednesday, Hopewell Police Lt. Paul Intravia said the evidence points to a clear intent to kill, and investigators are confident convictions will be secured.

“Any time there’s the death of a child, it’s hard for me to comprehend how somebody could do that to a child or an infant,” Intravia said. “That’s why we work so hard and so diligently, to make sure there was justice given to this child.”

David Gans is now being held in Riverside Regional Jail under no bond.
