It was Tuesday and we wanted to go to happy hour, it had been a long week. There is certainly no shortage of happy hours here in our great city, so we had a few to choose from. We settled on Sidewalk Cafe. They have a happy hour that goes past 6 pm and taco specials on Tuesdays.

By 5:45 pm we were sliding into a booth of this Fan neighborhood bar. If you haven’t been to Sidewalk before, picture wooden booths, beverage signs on walls, nostalgia galore. It’s a great homey bar and restaurant. They also have a pretty wild brunch on Saturday and Sunday.

I went with my friends Courtney and Ryan and we all decided on the special of the night – $2.50 Coronas. The weather is getting warmer and Coronas always remind me of summer. Happy hour at Sidewalk runs from 3-8pm Monday through Friday. They have various drink and food specials – beer specials, $3.50 rails, half off select appetizers.

Taco night started at 6 pm, so we waited a few minutes before ordering our food. Our waitress was very patient with us and gave us the rundown on the happy hour and the taco specials. Afterall, it was 5:45 pm and the bar was by no means crowded.

We started taco Tuesday with queso and guacamole. The dips arrived quickly. The queso was melty cheese goodness. The guac was good, but not my favorite. A pleasant surprise was the homemade hot sauce on the table. We are told it is made by the cook at Kuba Kuba and not for sale to the public. PSA the chips are an additional $1 (it is not clearly stated on the menu). Not that the extra $1 was a big deal, the prices were superb!

After apps, we all decided to order tacos. Courtney got the veggie and fish, Ryan went with two beef, I choose shrimp and Greek. Courtney said both were delicious but she really loved the veggie. Ryan enjoyed his beef tacos. I thought both of mine were excellent. The Greek was especially surprising, it came with Tzatziki and other fixings you would typically find on gyros. Sidewalk also has incredible Greek nachos.

I thought the service was great, both waitresses there were helpful and friendly. The food was good too, especially for the price. I ended up ordering two tacos for lunch the following day and my total bill was $25. This will definitely be a happy hour I return to again.
