The one-story, 14,017 square-foot design includes vastly improved amenities to accommodate the police department’s various services
HOPEWELL — City officials announced Thursday the time and date of a ceremony to mark the official groundbreaking of the Wonder City’s new police station.
All members of the community and the Hopewell Police Department are encouraged to attend the groundbreaking of the new police facility at the rear of the Hopewell Municipal Building on Tuesday, June 27, 2017, at 6 p.m.
The new state of the art police facility will be constructed by Haley Builders, Inc. at an estimated cost of $4.5 million dollars. Once completed, the new facility will be the culmination of months of public education and outreach and years of research, planning, and development.
The one-story, 14,017 square-foot design includes vastly improved amenities to accommodate the police department’s various services, as well as the capacity to manage the police department’s growth in the future and provide on-site parking for the public.
“One of my main goals when I became Chief in 2011 was to improve the working conditions and the facilities of the Hopewell Police Department,” said Hopewell Police Chief John Keohane. “This new facility will also help with morale, recruitment, and retention of our valued team members.”
“This is an exciting moment in Hopewell’s history, and this new modern facility will serve the community for many years to come,” said City Manager Mark Haley. “We look forward to holding a similar event for the new fire station in the near future.”
The facility will be equipped with larger administrative and records rooms, a modern and consolidated 911 Telecommunications and Dispatch Center, In-house Magistrate’s Teleconference room, training classroom, fitness center, and dedicated Uniform Patrol and Investigative Services Division’s.
“It is with great pleasure to see the Hopewell Police Department finally get a facility that they deserve,” said Hopewell Mayor Jackie Shornak. “I am proud that the city council members were able to come together and provide a facility to better meet their needs. The City is very fortunate to have such a distinguished police department that continues to strive to protect our citizens and improve the community. To be a part of this exciting event is very humbling.”
The new police facility is projected to be completed by the fall of 2018.
