Hopewell man charged with trying to steal motorcycle in Colonial Heights

On June 29th, 2017 at 11:15 pm, Colonial Heights Police responded to the Chick-Fil-A restaurant located in the 600 block of Southpark Boulevard for an attempted armed robbery. Officers located the victim who stated an unknown individual approached him in the parking lot, displayed a handgun and attempted to steal his motorcycle. A struggle ensued between the victim and suspect, during which the victim was struck in the face and head with the weapon. The victim was able to fend off the suspect, who then fled on foot on Southpark Boulevard. A short time later, a patrol officer who was canvassing the area, located the suspect and placed him into custody without incident.

Keynan Malik Copeland has been arrested and charged with attempted robbery, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, preventing a person from contacting 911, and abduction. Mr. Copeland remains incarcerated at Riverside Regional Jail pending his next court date on September 27th, 2017 in Colonial Heights General District Court.
