Late Tuesday night, at approximately, 11:06 p.m., the Virginia State Police responded to a vehicle crash involving a tractor trailer at northbound I-95 at the 59 mile marker.
The Trooper’s preliminary investigation reveals that Kenneth L. Williams, 65, of North Carolina was driving a 2016 Freightliner tractor northbound in the center lane. Williams then veered right hitting an occupied disabled vehicle, going off road, hitting several feet of guard rail, and finally coming to rest after striking several trees. The trailer separated from the tractor during the crash.
Williams had to be extricated from the vehicle and was transported to the hospital for treatment of life threatening injuries. The one occupant of the disabled vehicle did not sustain injury.
Charges are pending at this time and the cause of the crash remains under investigation.
The roadway was closed for an extended period of time for cleanup. It was finally reopened approximately 5:40 a.m., this morning.
