Thursday night around 6:36 p.m., the Virginia State Police responded to a two vehicle crash at northbound I-95 at the 67.2 mile marker.
Trooper D. Robinson’s preliminary investigation reveals that a 2005 Freightliner tractor hauling a trailer full of wood chips/mulch, was attempting to make a lane change to the right and struck a Mazda 3 on the drivers side. As a result, the tractor lost control flipping onto its left side and skidding across the left lane and shoulder. The load spilled into the southbound side of I-95.
The driver of the tractor, Jeremiah Perry, 32, of Newport News, Va., was wearing his seat belt and did not sustain injuries. The driver and a passenger of the Mazda 3 were also seatbelted and did not sustain injuries.
VDOT is assisting with the road closure, which has taken an extended period of time due to the cleanup process.
Perry was charged with: Reckless driving.
The crash remains under investigation.
