DUMFRIES, Va. – Iraq War veteran and Deputy Sheriff Josh King, the Democratic nominee for Prince William County Sheriff, today welcomed the endorsement of U.S. Rep. Jennifer Wexton.
“Democrat Josh King is the face of a new generation of law enforcement,” said Congresswoman Wexton. “As an Iraq War veteran and deputy sheriff, Josh will bring more than a decade of military and law enforcement experience to the job. He will recruit and train a diverse team to build public trust in the community, and he will work to ensure his deputies are well-prepared to respond to people with disabilities and mental illness. He has my enthusiastic endorsement for Prince William County Sheriff.” In September, King welcomed a $50,000 contribution from the George Soros-funded Democracy PAC. He has also been endorsed by U.S. Senator Tim Kaine, U.S. Rep. Gerry Connolly, VoteVets, CASA in Action, Giffords, Working Families Party, Democracy for America, People For the American Way, LAURA PAC, Blue Virginia, Nova Labor, SEIU Virginia 512, SEIU 32BJ, UFCW Local 400, Mid-Atlantic Pipe Trades Association, the Keystone Mountain Lakes Regional Council of Carpenters, and IBEW Local 26. He has been named a 2019 champion by the Progressive Change Campaign Committee.
Prince William is a majority-minority county in which nearly one in four people are immigrants. Once reliably red, the county is rapidly trending blue. In 2017, Democrats flipped five Prince William seats in the House of Delegates. The same year, Democrat Jackie Smith defeated the House Republican Whip by eight points in the Clerk of Court race, despite being outraised six-to-one.
