ORANGE, VA – Dan Ward, a 24-year Veteran of the Marine Corps and resident of Orange, VA launched his campaign for U.S. Congress in Virginia’s 7th Congressional district.
The 7th Congressional District has been represented by Congressman Dave Brat since 2014. An early Trump supporter, Brat has gained notoriety for his contentious comments to constituents at Town Hall gatherings.
Dan Ward’s statement is below:
“I’m running for Congress because serving my community and my country is in my blood.
The people of Virginia’s 7th district deserve a representative in Congress whose only priority is fighting for them and working on important issues like creating jobs and expanding access to health care.
Congressman Brat seems more interested in mimicking Donald Trump and supporting his divisive agenda than in serving the people of Virginia’s 7th district. And that’s not right.
We have some serious work to do and we need serious leaders who can do it.”
Dan Ward was raised in Central Virginia and attended Virginia public schools. After graduating from Vanderbilt University, Dan answered the call to service and was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the Marine Corps, where he flew in combat missions over Iraq, Bosnia and Kosovo. From 2011-2014 Dan was stationed at the U.S. Department of State, where he was promoted to Colonel and served as a senior military advisor, managing operations in Syria and Ukraine. After 24+ years of service, Dan retired from the Corps, moved back to Central VA and began flying Boeing 777’s. He lives on a farm in Orange with his wife and two children, where he raises cattle and runs a small saw mill.
