Patricia O’Bannon is the Republican that has represented the Tuckahoe district on the Henrico Board of Supervisors since 1995. Today she has confirmation that she has a new opponent named Marques Jones (D). Jones announced this morning that he is seeking the Democratic nomination for the Tuckahoe seat. “I’m going to be a voice for my neighbors when they need someone in their corner.” said Jones in his announcement.
Before running for public office, Jones was chairman of the Henrico Democratic Committee and a former state Senate candidate. He announces this run after several activists and members of the Democratic Party urged him to enter the BoS race.
Jones recently suspended his campaign for the 12th district state Senate seat. He was in a primary race against Veena Lothe (D) for months, but Jones dropped out of that race when Del. Debra Rodman joined the race earlier this month.
“Over the last couple of days, I’ve had a lot of conversations and my belief that advocacy doesn’t stop at the general assembly has been confirmed and strengthened.” said Jones in his announcement this morning.
O’Bannon hasn’t faced an opponent in this decade, but the district voted for Democrats in recent statewide elections. Democrats across the county understand that this will be a tough election to win, but they think it is possible. Flipping just one seat on the BoS would give them majority control.
Even with the surge of the Democratic Party across Henrico, O’Bannon is a 24- year incumbent that clearly knows how to win. Democrats behind the scenes are cautiously hopeful.

My passion for advocacy was sparked 10 years ago. An MS diagnosis at 27 wasn’t easy, but it gave me perspective. That’s why my passion doesn’t fade when a bill is voted down or a phone call isn’t returned – and it definitely doesn’t fade when a state senate race doesn’t go my way.
Over the last couple of days, I’ve had a lot of conversations and my belief that advocacy doesn’t stop at the general assembly has been confirmed and strengthened.
It’s not always about a governor’s signature. Sometimes what matters most is at the local level – that’s why I’m running for Henrico County Board of Supervisors in the Tuckahoe District.
I’m going to be a voice for my neighbors when they need someone in their corner. Whether it’s a teacher who’s struggling to pay rent, a fireman who hasn’t gotten a raise in years, or an elderly woman who wants a grocery store that isn’t halfway across the county – I’ll have their back.
Quality Education, Smart Growth, and Safe Neighborhoods for everyone!
These are real issues affecting real people – and I’m going to work tirelessly advocating for policies that make a difference to folks in need. Will you join me?
Marques D. Jones
Candidate, Henrico County Board of Supervisos – Tuckahoe District
Let’s fix it together. Join me today.
