Melissa Dart, a former candidate for the House of Delegates, has announced that she is running for the Tuckahoe seat on Henrico’s School Board.
The seat recently became open when Lisa Marshall announced that she is stepping down due to health reasons.
See the press release from Dart below. Stay tuned for more on this race.
Melissa Dart, 2017 Candidate for State Delegate, has announced her interest in pursuing the Tuckahoe Henrico School Board seat abruptly vacated by Lisa Marshall.
Melissa, a healthcare administration professional, is deeply committed to ensuring the continuing excellence of public education in the Henrico County. She currently serves on the Henrico County Special Education Advisory Committee where she advocates for her son Leo and 6,000 children in Henrico County with special needs. With daily threats encroaching on public education funding, Melissa wants to work as a member of the School Board to protect the needs of all students, teachers, faculties and families throughout the community.
Based on the timing of Ms. Marshall’s resignation, just 13 days after a special election could have been held to fill the seat, the School Board has a series of options of how to fill the seat, including voting to hold a special election, appointing an interim who will serve until November, 2019, or allowing the Circuit Court to make the appointment.
Dart has immediately announced her candidacy so that the community and board know that a qualified appointee is willing and interested in the position.
