A woman her 14-month-old toddler escaped a fire in their Midlothian home early Monday morning.

Firefighters responded to reports of a house fire on Dawnwood Court.

The mother said she was awakened by noises that sounded like rain, so she went to try and figure out what was causing the noise.

That is when she discovered smoke in the homes attic.

She then grabbed her 14-month-old and left their house.

The fire was contained to the attic and it believed to have started around an exhaust fan.
