Vice President Mike Pence stumped for Scott Taylor (R) at Regent University in Virginia Beach, Virginia Wednesday night. He was looking to give the last minute boost that Taylor needs to beat Democratic opponent Elaine Luria and keep his seat in the house. “Virginia and America need Scott Taylor back,” Pence told the crowd.
This continues a sweep of vulnerable Republicans in Virginia that Mike Pence has executed to try and save some seats in the House. Last week he came to Richmond to Stump for Dave Brat, Denver Riggleman, and Ryan McAdams.
Taylor said he was honored the vice president reached out to campaign for him, and told CBN News even though his race is tight, he feels confident he’ll be heading back to Washington.
“I think tonight was a huge statement of force that shows that we have tremendous support and momentum going into Election Day, so I feel great about it,” Taylor explained.
Taylor is in a dogfight to keep his seat from going to Democrat Elaine Luria. Taylor has been accused of using staffers to help the former Democratic Candidate from 2016 get on the ballot as an independent – hoping to split the Democratic vote. The scheme was eventually called out, and Taylor is now facing an investigation. Regardless of this, Taylor is still leading in the latest polls to win the swing district.
Larry Sabato at UVA and his team just moved the Virginia Beach district race from “Toss-Up” to “Leans-Republican”.
“Balancing out this change in Virginia is moving Hampton Roads Rep. Scott Taylor (R, VA-2) from Toss-up to Leans Republican. He has led a few recent polls in his race against former Navy commander Elaine Luria (D) and, at the moment, probably is the best-positioned of three vulnerable Republican House incumbents in the state. Rep. Barbara Comstock (R, VA-10) remains an underdog in Northern Virginia, while Rep. Dave Brat (R, VA-7) is locked in a Toss-up race in suburban Richmond/Central Virginia.”

ICYMI: Pence endorsed Riggleman and Brat in their tight races for the House. Brat is facing Spanberger, a moderate Democratic looking to flip the typically Republican stronghold int he VA-07. Riggleman is facing Democrat Leslie Cockburn for the VA-05 seat. Cockburn is a former journalist, and Riggleman is a local businessman.
“Denver’s campaign for Congress continues to gain momentum,” said Riggleman Campaign Manager Joe Chelak. “This endorsement is proof that Denver’s message of increased economic prosperity and decreased government regulation is what 5th district voters want.”
Pence also announced his endorsement for 7th district congressman last week.
“PROUD to give my full endorsement today in Richmond to Congressman @DaveBratVA7th. Dave is a conservative committed to low taxes and strong border security. He supports @realDonaldTrump and is working everyday to #MAGA 🇺🇸“
