The House Minority Leader spoke for over 8 hours today in an effort to push for an immigration vote – or at least the promise of one. Nancy Pelosi’s takeover is the longest speech recorded on the House floor. She spent the time talking about the so-called dreamers and DACA. She read multiple stories about individual dreamers along with bible verses. This all wraps back around the the budget bill and possible government shutdown in the future.

A budget bill is expected to make it out of the Senate that increases domestic spending along with military spending. According to outlines of the deal shared by congressional aides, existing spending caps written into law would be lifted by a combined $315 billion through 2019. About $90 billion more would be spent on disaster aid for victims of recent hurricanes and wildfires.

House minority leader Nancy Pelosi (D) stated that without a commitment from House Speaker Paul Ryan (R) – similar to the one by Mitch McConnell in the Senate – she would not support the budget package.

“Without that commitment from Speaker Ryan, comparable to the commitment from Leader McConnell, this package does not have my support nor does it have the support of a large number of members of our caucus,” Pelosi said.
