HENRICO – Delegate Schuyler VanValkenburg (D-Henrico) is proud to have been endorsed by NARAL Pro-Choice Virginia for his re-election in November 2019. Delegate VanValkenburg has been a strong supporter of a woman’s right to make her own reproductive healthcare decisions without political interference and at this pivotal moment in history, with increased threats to reproductive rights at the state and federal level, he is ready to stand up to defend access to reproductive healthcare for all Virginians.
NARAL Pro-Choice Virginia is a state-level advocacy group working to ensure that women in the Commonwealth can prevent unintended pregnancies, have healthy pregnancies and births, and choose a safe, legal abortion.
“During his time in the Virginia House, Delegate Schuyler VanValkenburg has fought to protect access to critical reproductive healthcare and rights for all Virginians. With increased threats to safe and legal abortion care, we need his continued leadership in the General Assembly,” said Tarina Keene, executive director of NARAL Pro-Choice Virginia. “Across this country, anti-choice Republicans are no longer pretending to respect women and families—they are revealing their true agenda: to ban abortion and criminalize women and doctors. And with Roe v. Wade hanging by a thread, Virginia needs leaders like Delegate VanValkenburg, who trusts a woman to make her own personal healthcare decisions and understands the urgent importance of securing a future that upholds Virginian’s basic rights and freedoms and ensures abortion remains safe and legal in the Commonwealth.”
“Protecting a woman’s right to make her own decisions regarding her body is one of my top priorities as a Delegate” said VanValkenburg. “Living a safe and healthy life is a basic right – as is the freedom to make our own decisions about our bodies, our lives, and our futures. When a woman decides to have an abortion, it should be safe, affordable, and free from judgment. When people have the ability to make decisions that are best for their lives, families thrive, and we build communities where each of us can participate with dignity and equality.”
VanValkenburg understands that regulations like Virginia’s Targeted Restrictions on Abortion Providers (TRAP), passed by anti-choice politicians, represent a real threat to a woman’s ability to access health care. Moreover, these regulations attack a woman’s core human right to bodily autonomy. Delegate VanValkenburg welcomes NARAL Pro-Choice Virginia’s support as he continues to fight for a future where every individual has the ability and freedom to control her own destiny by ensuring her access to the full range of reproductive health services.
