RICHMOND, VA, – Today New Virginia Majority endorsed Dr. Ghazala Hashmi for Virginia’s 10th State Senate District.
“Ghazala is a fierce advocate for inclusive and equitable policy solutions,” said Tram Nguyen, Co-Executive Director of New Virginia Majority. “Her lived experience as a South Asian American woman, an immigrant, and a Muslim-American will bring more reflective representation to our State Senate. SD10, which covers Powhatan County and parts of Richmond and Chesterfield County, is home to Virginians of many races, religions, ethnicities, and abilities and Ghazala is committed to recognizing and serving all of us. I currently reside in this district and I am eager to join New Virginia Majority in spreading the word about Ghazala throughout the district.”
New Virginia Majority (NVM) is a grassroots fueled organization that seeks to build power in working-class communities of color across the Commonwealth. NVM organizes for racial and economic justice through large-scale political education, mobilization and advocacy around dozens of issues.
“I am honored and humbled to receive the endorsement of New Virginia Majority,” said Dr. Hashmi. “The work that they do to build up traditionally marginalized communities is incredibly important to the progress of our state, and I am proud to stand with them in this pursuit. I am running for State Senate because the people of the 10th District need a representative who will fight for better schools, higher wages, and equal rights for all Virginians.”
