Part of Midlothian Turnpike is closed after police pursuit in Chesterfield

Police have said that part of Midlothian Turnpike is closed near Tuxford road after a police pursuit resulted in a crash. Police say that a 19-year-old stole a police cruiser and led police on a pursuit before the crash .

Police say the suspect has been detained. The pursuit began near Hopkins Road after police responded to a call for someone attempting to steal the car. The suspect drove the stolen police cruiser down Chippenham Parkway and exited on the Midlothian Turnpike exit. He then drove in the direction of Chesterfield Town Center when he crashed in front of Joe’s Pizza and Subs.
