Pedestrian Killed on 288 in Chesterfield

Tuesday morning at approximately, 8:33 a.m., the Virginia State Police responded to a single vehicle crash with a pedestrian fatality at southbound Route 288, north of Hull Street.

Trooper W. Moleins’s preliminary investigation reveals that 2006 Ford Explorer was disabled on the right shoulder of southbound Route 288. The driver, Derek D. Dambacher, 53, of Chesterfield, Va., was outside of the vehicle when he stepped out into the left lane of travel and was struck by a 2018 International tractor traveling southbound.

Unfortunately, Dambacher succumbed to his injuries at the scene. There were no other injuries reported.

There are no charges at this time.

The crash remains under investigation.

VDOT, Chesterfield Police Department, in addition to Chesterfield Fire and EMS all assisted at the scene.
