Police investigating armed robbery on VCU campus

Virginia Commonwealth University is providing notice of a recently reported Armed Robberythat may pose a serious or continuing threat to campus safety. This notice is intended to aid in the prevention of similar crimes and to enable members of the university community to protect themselves.

Reported offense: On July 18, 2018 at 12:11am Richmond Police and VCU Police responded to the South alley of the 1000 block of W. Grace Street for a report of an armed robbery.

Brief description of how the crime took place: The victim reported that the suspect approached him in the alley and displayed a silver handgun and demanded personal property. The victim gave the suspect property and the suspect fled on foot west away from campus.




The victim was not injured or hurt during the encounter.

Suspect/s: The suspect is described as a black male, 20 years of age, 5’8, 170, wearing a red jacket, long dark pants, a dark colored ball cap, and no visible facial hair.

Investigating agency: Richmond Police are leading the investigation.

 

The VCU Police would like to remind students, in particular, to keep personal safety in mind. There are certain things you need to be aware of when living in an urban environment.  Crimes may occur in our community, and the best defense is to be prepared and to take responsibility for your own safety and for that of your friends and fellow students.
