Abigail Spanberger, the Democratic front-runner in the VA-07 House district has received more endorsements announcing the support of local VA Delegates Dawn Adams, Debra Rodman, and Schuyler VanValkenberg. Abigail Spanberger is facing only one opponent, Dan Ward, now that Helen Ali has decided to run as an independent.
Democrats across the country are feeling the momentum heading into the midterms so elections like this are a starting to heat up. CNN has downgraded the chances of the Republican incumbent Dave Brat’s re-election – while reporting that he is “poised for a challenge of his own from one of two Democrats who outraised him at the end of last year — former CIA officer Abigail Spanberger or Marine Corps veteran Dan Ward. Race moves from Likely Republican to Lean Republican.”
This comes after the Democrat Conor Lamb’s victory in Pennsylvania in the heart of Trump country really showed the country that this blue wave might really be hitting its stride. Spanberger recently spoke with Richmond 2day about the PA election and the potential in Virginia this November:
“Democrat Conor Lamb winning a district that Donald Trump carried by 20 points reinforces that voters across the country are eager to take our democracy in a new direction. We saw it here in Virginia last November, and again in Alabama a month later. And later this year, the blue wave will continue across Virginia’s 7th District.”
Below is the release from the Spanberger campaign announcing their most recent endorsements:
In early 2017, as so many Americans were adjusting to the reality of the 2016 election, it was a small group of Virginians who stepped forward to run for office and give us all hope.
Across Virginia, they ran incredible races, some closed gaping margins, and three, right here in the 7th Congressional District, flipped their seats.
Debra Rodman unseated an 18-year incumbent in an “unwinnable” race. Dawn Adams was outspent more than 3 to 1 by a popular incumbent. Schuyler VanValkenburg excited people and made canvassing the most popular weekend activity in Western Henrico. They led by example, they worked tirelessly, and they inspired people to devote their time, treasure, and talent to their campaigns.

Delegate Dawn Adams, District 68: “I am proud to endorse our next Representative for the 7th Congressional District, Abigail Spanberger. Abigail is a servant leader we can trust. As a nurse practitioner and legislator, I recognize the importance of public officials who will represent the values of their constituency, possess a willingness to communicate effectively with both sides of the aisle, and fight to ensure policies made protect the rights of all people.”
Delegate Debra Rodman, District 73: “My race was thought to be ‘unwinnable,’ but our grassroots campaign proved that anything’s possible with hard work and a true commitment to voters. This is why I proudly endorse Abigail Spanberger for Virginia’s 7th Congressional District. Many of our campaign’s supporters and volunteers have already begun supporting her campaign to continue the momentum to flip the 7th. We look forward to November when Abigail will bring her integrity, experience, and leadership to Congress.”
Delegate Schuyler VanValkenburg, District 72: “I am proud to endorse Abigail Spanberger to be our next Representative for Virginia’s 7th District. During the 2017 election, I saw firsthand how hard she worked and how committed she was to using her power as a citizen to bring change to her community, and I’m honored to have the chance to do the same for my district by helping her get to Congress. She will work for solutions that serve the people of our district, and be a steadfast champion for Virginia’s working families.”
