Below is a press release from Abigail Spanberger’s campaign announcing a new endorsement.
Yesterday, Abigail Spanberger, former CIA operations officer and Democratic candidate for Virginia’s 7th Congressional District, received the endorsement of Population Connection Action Fund, the nation’s oldest and largest grassroots population organization. This offer of support is a reflection of Spanberger’s commitment to protecting women’s health and fighting any Republican effort to repeal a woman’s right to choose.
“There is no doubt that increasing access to family planning and reproductive health programs is a crucial economic issue for many families. The ability to prevent or delay pregnancy opens up new opportunities for vulnerable people across the developing world — just like it does for women and families in Central Virginia,” said Spanberher. “Congressman Brat’s support for attacks on family planning access is harmful to women and families worldwide. I’m committed to fighting to repeal the Global Gag Rule, restore aid to U.N. Population Fund, and oppose any efforts to undermine women’s health care.”
Brian Dixon, the Senior Vice President said, “Ms. Spanberger has made clear that she recognizes that access to comprehensive reproductive health isn’t a luxury, it’s critical to expanding opportunity and economic security for people in Virginia, across the United States and around the world. She offers a startling contrast to the incumbent, Dave Brat.”
Dixon added, “It is long past time for Congress to stand up to this shortsighted, misguided cruelty. It is time for Congress to stand up for the victims of human rights violations, not the violators. It is time for Congress to stand up for the rights of all people to choose their own futures.”
The endorsement from Population Connection Action joins a growing list of national organizations backing Spanberger’s bid for Virginia’s 7th Congressional District. Notably, Spanberger has been endorsed by EMILY’s List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, NARAL, the nation’s leading pro-choice advocacy group, and End Citizens United, a grassroots organization dedicated to reforming campaign finance. Moms Demand Action also recognized Spanberger as a “Gun Sense Candidate” and NewDemPAC added her to their ‘Candidate Watch List.
