RVA is Set to Hold West End Library Reopening Celebration

Richmond Public Libraries (RPL) will celebrate renovations completed at the West End Library, 5420 Patterson Avenue, at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, August 23. RPL will also announce the name of their new mascot!

Mayor Levar M. Stoney will be joined by 1st District Councilman Andreas Addison, Gail Zwirner, Chair of the Library Board of Trustees and Scott Firestine, Director of the Richmond Public Library for brief remarks and the ceremonial ribbon cutting.

Project renovations and additions include:

  • New carpet, shelving, paint and furniture
  • New books, DVDs, magazines and audio books
  • A new addition with expanded seating
  • An expanded children’s/youth area
  • New patron computers
  • New children’s educational learning computer
  • New interior and exterior lighting
  • New bike rack and wider walkways
  • Improved access for those with disabilities

To celebrate the reopening, the Richmond Public Library Foundation is donating $4,000 to the West End Library. In addition, there will be fine amnesty for books and materials returned to the West End Library from August 23 through the end of the September.
