UVA sport’s fans are wary about expecting a win. Every time it appears that they are on the verge of breaking through, the worst happens. The basketball team keeps coming back, and I expect them to do the same this year.
But this is the second year that UVA Football is bowl eligible. Last time they won a game to become eligible, the fans rushed the field. This weekend when the became eligible after beating UNC, everyone left and went home. This isn’t a bad thing, it just means that fans expect this now. The players do too. Check out the analysis from Paul Woody of this mindset as a UVA Football fan. My favorite part of Woody’s piece is “Winning has that effect on people and ticket sales.
Hey, what’s the big deal. Who didn’t see this coming?
Ask the players. None are surprised.
In first place in the ACC Coastal Division (4-1) by a half game?
That’s nice, the players say, but leading the Coastal Division isn’t the goal. Playing in a bowl game isn’t the goal.”
