ORANGE, VA – The campaign for Marine Corps veteran and airline pilot Dan Ward, a candidate for Virginia’s 7th Democratic congressional district, today announced that Ward has raised over $284,000 in the 4th quarter of 2017, and over $547,000 in total since he launched his campaign to unseat Congressman Dave Brat on July 7th, 2017.

Ward’s last two fundraising quarters were the highest back-to-back fundraising performances ever recorded for a 7th District Democratic primary candidate, according to FEC filings.

“November’s tremendous election results and the unprecedented support we’ve received for our campaign shows: Democrats in Virginia are fired up to take Congress back from extremists like Dave Brat,” Ward said. “ I think people are hungry for real leadership in Congress and want a Representative who is willing to stand up for the values that truly make this country great.”

This quarter Ward raised over $284,000 from more than 900 supporters, over 50% of which came from donations of $100 or less. These fundraising totals will be part of the fourth quarter report that the campaign will file with the Federal Election Commission (FEC) for 2017.

Dan Ward was raised in a small, rural community in central Virginia and attended Virginia public schools before graduating from Vanderbilt University on a ROTC scholarship. After graduation, Dan spent 25 years in the Marine Corps flying attack jets in combat missions over Iraq, Bosnia, and Kosovo. Colonel Ward later served as a senior military advisor in President Obama’s State Department where he ran cooperative defense programs in Syria and Ukraine before retiring in late 2014. As a civilian, Dan pilots 777s and until he became a candidate for Congress, he advocated for increased aviation safety on behalf of the Air Line Pilots Association. Dan lives on a farm in Orange with his wife where they raise cattle and run a sawmill repurposing historic lumber. They have two children in college and two dogs running around the farm.
