The Richmond Spiders won their 2nd straight game and improved to 13-8 (7-2 A-10) on the season after defeating the Duquesne Dukes, 101-90, this past Saturday. Richmond got a huge game by T.J. Cline and were able to secure the victory after a 11-2 run gave the Spiders an 82-73 lead with 5:02 left in regulation. Richmond was outstanding on the offensive end as the Spiders shot 53.4% from the field and 41.9% (13-31) from beyond the arc. Leading the way for the Spiders was T.J. The VCU Rams won their 2nd straight game and improved to 16-5 (6-2 A-10) on the season after defeating the Dayton Flyers, 73-68, this past Friday. VCU went into halftime down by a 33-31 margin however, used a 15-6 run to take a 63-52 lead with 2:07 remaining and hung on for the big conference victory. VCU shot 44.8% from the field and outrebounded Dayton by a 41-24 margin. Leading the way for the Rams was Justin Tillman who had 18 points, 9 rebounds, and an assist. On the season, VCU is averaging 75.4 ppg on 47.6% shooting from the field. The Rams are averaging 6.3 three-pointers per game on 35.0% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, VCU has been led by JeQuan Lewis (14.6 ppg, 3.2 rpg, 4.6 apg, 2.1 spg), Justin Tillman (11.9 ppg, 7.6 rpg), Mo Alie-Cox (9.7 ppg, 4.1 rpg, 1.2 spg, 2.2 bpg), and Samir Doughty (8.8 ppg, 4.0 rpg, 2.0 apg). Defensively, VCU is holding their opponents to an average of 65.5 ppg on 42.1% shooting from the field. The Rams have a rebound margin of 3.0 and a turnover margin of 2.2.
The Spiders are 9-2-2 ATS in their last 13 Wednesday games and 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games as an underdog. The Rams are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games as a home favorite of 7.0-12.5 and 22-10 ATS in their last 32 games vs. A-10 opponents.
Richmond has won 7 of their last 9 games and has been solid on both sides of the ball this season as they rank 177th in scoring offense, 106th in FG%, 158th in scoring defense, and 103rd in defensive FG%. VCU has won 10 of their last 12 games and have been led by their impressive defense that ranks 43rd in scoring defense, 17th in steals per game, and 104th in defensive FG%. This is a ton of points for VCU to cover, however, Richmond did recently lose by a 75-59 margin at Dayton and as I think VCU will be more than ready to slow down T.J. Cline, I’m taking the Rams to cover this large spread at home. Take VCU to cover.
